So I'm leaving in a couple of hours...

So basically this is a post about art and artist. I'm leaving in a couple of hours to Europe. The trip is basically and art trip, seeing art, talking art and hopefully shooting stuff that will turn into art. I'll be back in two weeks. I probably wont be posting so I hope you check back in around November 26th..

Kicking off this post with a smootch, Chris Johanson and his beautiful wife Jo Jackson.

This is Dean and Randy from No Age. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they will be playing Ed's opening at the Smack next year in Ghent, Belgium. They ROCK!

This is Barry Mcgee, Clare Rojas and Asha. Barry is having an opening in L.A. on the 20th of this month, I think you can get all the details from the RVCA website.

This is Tim, he is the head hauncho of the Tim Van Laere gallery. Also taking Ed on an incredible art journey.

A little close up of Jim Goldberg's wall. I hope he doesn't mind that I shot this..

This is Sally Mann giving a talk in Copenhagen a couple of years ago, what a treat!

This is Mr. Aaron Rose, he basically kick started Ed's art career.

Mike Mills in front of his work in a show we were in in Milan.

A little portrait of Miranda July

Cheers!!

Ok, I have a good excuse why I stopped posting for a bit..

So my excuse is is that I've been under the weather with a cold and maybe a touch of the flu. Which means basically I just parked my butt on the couch for the last week taking vitamin C's, drinking water and smoothies and just trying to heal before I leave for Europe next week. But now I'm feeling better, (just coughing) so I thought I would post something considering there are a lot of nice people who comment here. THANK YOU! So this post is made up of a few photos from Copenhagen that tied in with my excuse. Though the first photo is just to show, (thankfully) that I didn't have to go the hospital.

This photo represents how I also just wanted to lay down where ever and when ever.

The cold/flu basically kept me in this stage, caught between the couch and actually doing stuff.

Some images from my last trip to Paris.

I forgot who this statue/ grave was for and why people felt compelled to put their hands on it. It must have some healing powers.

I love the different ways ladies announce they're are getting married in Europe. In England a lady had a crown made of little penis's and in Germany a lady was handing out g-string underwear and pretzels.

I'm not sure if I've already shown this?

A little park relaxation

Notre Dame in Paris is a must see and a must shoot!

Yet again I shoot people on the subway, is it to easy? I mean they have no where to go and hide.

Scenic images from driving around the U.S.

So I'm leaving tomorrow for N.Y., unfortunately by plane. I absolutely love to drive across country to see and smell all the differences out there. I'll be back on Monday but until then this will be my only post. I don't have a laptop so I couldn't post even if I wanted to. Which I wouldn't because when I'm on vacation I don't want to spend my time in a hotel blogging. I think everyone would agree, even if they still post...

No faux hawks here.

When I was growing up I absolutely loved the hairstyle that Annabella Lwin of Bow Wow Wow was sporting, which just happened to be a mohawk. Not an up sprayed spikey kind, no hers was always laying down.

Images from my last trip to London, Part 1

"But not for you"

Have a mentioned these photos were taken only a week after having my pins removed from my right arm. Which made taking photos a little difficult, like not being able to hold the camera steady. Just thought you should know.

A little window perusing.

On this last trip we happened to be in town for St. George's Day. Though I thought this was some celebration for a winning football team. I was wrong.

Hopefully this wasn't a result from St. George's Day..

Some random sights from my home town

The house in the middle frame was our first house..

There's this unregulated park behind our house called Hidden Valley. My husband has been documenting this place for years. One day I decided to take a few snaps with my half frame camera. I like what came back.

Just a regular summer day in Huntington Beach.

Jaws on Main Street.

I believe this man was enjoying the U.S. Open.

Barcelona, one of my favorite places to shoot.

The famous market on La Rambla is always a cool place for photos and to grab a bite to eat.

One day wondering around we happened upon what we thought was a protest of some sort. Shooting protests are usually really exciting. But this one we found out in a matter of a minute was scripted, being filmed for some movie.. as you can see the microphone in the shot. I still wanted to shoot it though, good practice.

We were lucky enough one night to catch some religious procession. I think it might have been for Easter. I'm not sure what was more beautiful the floats or the music.

In 2007 I was fortunate enough to find myself in Russia

If you would like to see more from this trip, the kind people at RVCA and Emerica helped me publish a book called 17 Days. It's a photo book that documents my trip to England, (the photos of the kids playing spin the bottle on this blog are in there) Germany,Copenhagen, Malmo and Russia. I believe you can still purchase this book through the RVCA website. Or Arcana Books, one of our favorite art books stores in Santa Monica, California. Ok, that's enough plugging my book, but seriously check it out, buy it!

It's been a year...

I can't believe people are still checking this site out! But I'm so excited that you are!! So I will start posting again. I actually thought they did away with this..
Anyway, hello!
I'll start off with a selection of photos I've shot over the last year in my swimming pool. I actually had a show at New Image Art in October and I believe Hobo magazine is running a photo essay of the series.

Here's a little glimpse of Ed's Art Kabinett installation at the art fair in Miami. Enjoy!! This was filmed on my new little Flip video camera that Ed gave me for our 16 year anniversary, yeah!

Thank you to the people who post comments!! Now it's time to move onto to a new post, about the lower half of people.

Is there anybody out there?

I kind of had this idea that I wouldn't post a new blog until someone comments on the one at hand. But that could be never and the fine people at RVCA would like us all to update every week so I'm not waiting around anymore. By the way I'm not really angry with all you non-commenters, I just thought this photo was funny.

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

This past summer I went along on a RVCA skate/art trip. The art part was that Ed and I were in a group show at Anti Social. The skate part was that the team was going to go around and do demos and film. Thankfully they didn't send me home after the art show was over. So while traveling around I was shooting photos, along with Ed, Jimmy and Mike. I had a great time! I even added another year to my age.

Beautiful tattoos on a beautiful lady.

We saw one of these street perfomers on the ground after she fell. She looked embarrassed, it was to dark to take her photo.

There was a comedy festival going on in Montreal while we were there. I think these people were impersonating some great comedy troupe but I have no idea who?

Someone we were sharing the road with.

I love old people. Especially when they're wearing hats.

Ferry crossing to Victoria Island.

A photo I'm not sure if I should have taken.

A quaint little yard sale.

This girl brought back memories of when my bestfriend Ann used to dress like this, 22 years ago.

Spin the bottle Birmingham, England style

To start off I never actually played spin the bottle when I was a kid, I was to scared... Though I did have fun watching my friends do it way back then. But now, 20 some years later I watched in amazement and shock. (Which shows because I didn't always have my camera focused. So some photos ended up blurry.) I guess I just don't remember back in my day when the bottle landed on two boys that they would actually kiss! Honestly I'm so old I don't think two girls back then would have kissed either! At least that's all they actually did at this game of spin the bottle. When I was a kid the ante was always upped when you landed on the same two people, like you would first kiss, just a little peck, then a tongue kiss, and then the two would have to get up and leave to go somewhere dark and secluded. Everyone thinks they were doing something really crazy, which is why I didn't want to play. Anyway, this is what I saw one day in Birmingham while all the guys I was with were skating.
To be young again....

words can never hurt me

Still no photos from my last Europe trip... I've been a little busy/lazy. But here are a few from last year around California. I have to admit as I travel around Australia, Europe and Asia it only seems to be the states where I see young women with hard, confronting words written on them. Words that make me atleast think about what they are trying to non-verbally communicate. The young girl with 666 written on her was for the occasion that the day was June 6th, 2006. I understand that, the "die whore" not really sure if she was talking about herself or someone she really disliked. It did make me think of myself when I was younger, how I would write such negative things about myself, and how far from that I have come. The "evil cunt" tattoo, it's not just only the words thats struck me but the imagry, the hands grasping, pulling at the woman. The young woman herself did not seem evil or a cunt, she was actually really friendly in letting me photograph her tattoo. Her tattoo did make me think would I ever feel that stronge about something to permantly display it on my skin. I do have a few tattoo's myself but they are more of the floral pattern. Nothing to confronting there. And last but not least the "jacob owns this". This one made me look at myself. The thought of someone owning me. It's hard for me to let this go, I know it's definitely been scrubbed off by now, and maybe she doesn't even remember it, no big woop, but those words. These words don't hurt me but they definitely got me thinking.

I just got back from Europe...

I will put up some photos when I get them ready!
